Multipurpose Centrifuges
The Ohaus Frontier multipurpose range is the widest of the four Frontier categories, running from the compact FC5706P and FC5707 for standard 15 ml and 50 ml tubes up to the FC5917RF, which spins 4 x 1000 ml bottles at up to 26,361 x g. In between sit the FC5714, FC5718, FC5816, and FC5916 families, several of which are also available as refrigerated FC5718R, FC5720R, FC5816R, FC5830R, and FC5916R models. Labman supplies this full line-up for laboratories across Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg, so whether you are separating blood tubes, running cell culture, or handling 1000 ml bottles, there is a Frontier model sized to the job.

From compact bench units to 1000 ml capacity
The multipurpose category spans a wide performance range: the entry-level FC5706P and FC5707 cover standard 15 ml and 50 ml tubes at up to 6,800 rpm, while the FC5714, FC5718, FC5816, and FC5916 families move up to 4 x 200 ml, 4 x 290 ml, or 4 x 750 ml swing-out rotors and speeds up to 20,000 rpm. At the top of the range, the FC5917RF drives a 4 x 1000 ml swing-out rotor and the FC5830R reaches 65,395 x g, the highest force in the Frontier line-up.
Automatic rotor recognition on the higher-throughput models
From the FC5714 upward, these centrifuges add automatic RFID rotor recognition with over-speed protection, so the unit identifies the fitted rotor and applies the correct speed limit without manual input. The compact FC5706P and FC5707 use a simpler intuitive control panel instead, which suits labs running one or two standard protocols rather than switching rotors throughout the day.
BIOSEAL rotors and stainless steel chambers from the FC5714 upward
A BIOSEAL rotor option and a chemical-resistant stainless steel rotor chamber are available from the FC5714 and larger models, for laboratories that need to contain aerosols from potentially infectious samples or clean the chamber after chemical exposure. All multipurpose models, including the compact FC5706P and FC5707, add microprocessor control, an imbalance switch-off, an emergency lid release, and 99 program memories as standard.
Refrigerated versions across the range
The FC5718, FC5816, FC5916, and FC5917RF families are each available in a refrigerated version (FC5718R, FC5816R, FC5916R, FC5917RF), and the FC5720R and FC5830R are refrigerated-only models built for higher speed and force. Every refrigerated Frontier centrifuge now runs on R290, a natural low-GWP refrigerant, ahead of the EU F-gas Regulation 2024/573 and the US EPA SNAP phase-down of R452A.
Built on Ohaus and Hermle engineering
Ohaus, which also owns the German centrifuge manufacturer Hermle Labortechnik, builds the multipurpose range for daily use on a busy bench: a backlit LCD shows set and actual parameters together, ten acceleration and deceleration profiles cover gentle to aggressive sample handling, and every model runs continuously or on a preset timer from 10 seconds to 99 hours 59 minutes.
