The OHAUS FC5816R, part of the Frontier 5000 Multi-Pro Series, is a refrigerated multipurpose centrifuge engineered for temperature-sensitive, high-volume laboratory applications. With a powerful speed range of 200 to 16,000 rpm and a maximum RCF of 24,325 × g, it is ideal for research, clinical, industrial, and environmental labs requiring reliable cooling and high-throughput performance.
This model has been transitioned to R290, a natural propane-based refrigerant with a low Global Warming Potential. The change keeps this centrifuge ahead of the EU F-gas Regulation 2024/573 and the US EPA SNAP phase-down of high-GWP refrigerants such as R452A, while matching the original stricter timeline rather than the extended deadline. The refrigeration circuit is hermetically sealed and complies with IEC 61010-2-011, the safety standard for laboratory equipment using flammable refrigerants, so operators keep full protection even in the unlikely event of a rotor failure or ignition risk.
This unit features a CFC-free refrigeration system with a temperature control range from –20 °C to +40 °C, allowing rapid pre-cooling to 4 °C in under 10 minutes. Its stainless-steel chamber, motorized lid lock, automatic rotor recognition, imbalance detection, and over-speed protection ensure safe and long-term operation.
The FC5816R offers advanced programmability, including 99 user-defined programs, 10 acceleration and 10 braking profiles, and a Quick Spin function for short runs. Run times can be set from 10 seconds to 99 hours 59 minutes, or in continuous mode.
Despite its high performance, the unit maintains a low noise level of ≤ 63 ± 2 dB(A) and fits easily on most laboratory benches with dimensions of 538 × 723 × 354 mm and a weight of 77 kg.
