The OHAUS FC5830R, part of the Frontier 5000 Multi-Pro Series, is a high-performance refrigerated multipurpose centrifuge designed for demanding research, clinical, industrial, and environmental applications. It offers a speed range from 200 to 30,000 rpm, generating a maximum RCF of 65,395 × g, and supports large-volume processing with rotors accommodating up to 6 × 250 mL tubes.

This model has been transitioned to R290, a natural propane-based refrigerant with a low Global Warming Potential. The change keeps this centrifuge ahead of the EU F-gas Regulation 2024/573 and the US EPA SNAP phase-down of high-GWP refrigerants such as R452A, while matching the original stricter timeline rather than the extended deadline. The refrigeration circuit is hermetically sealed and complies with IEC 61010-2-011, the safety standard for laboratory equipment using flammable refrigerants, so operators keep full protection even in the unlikely event of a rotor failure or ignition risk.

Equipped with a robust CFC-free refrigeration system, the FC5830R maintains precise sample temperatures from –20 °C to +40 °C, with rapid pre-cooling to 4 °C in under 10 minutes—ideal for temperature-sensitive assays. The centrifuge features a corrosion-resistant stainless-steel chamber, motorized lid lock, automatic rotor recognition, over-speed protection, dual-imbalance sensing, and operates quietly at ≤ 60 ± 2 dB(A).

A backlit LCD display and rotary knob interface allow intuitive control of 99 programmable memory slots, including 10 acceleration and braking profiles, Quick-Spin mode, and run times from 10 seconds up to 99 hours 59 minutes—or continuous operation.

The FC5830R is supplied without a rotor, allowing users to select from various angle and swing-out rotors suitable for micro to large volumes—up to 4 × 290 mL swing-out or 6 × 250 mL angle rotors—tailoring the centrifuge to specific laboratory needs.

Despite its power, the unit fits standard lab benches with dimensions of 519 × 723 × 413 mm and weighs 91 kg. It runs on a 1.6 kW, 230 V AC power supply, delivering top-tier performance and versatility.
