Mini Centrifuges
The Ohaus Frontier FC5306 is the entry point into the Frontier range: a single fixed-speed mini centrifuge built for a quick spin-down rather than a fully programmable protocol. It runs at 6,000 rpm and 2,000 x g, ships with both an 8 x 1.5/2.0 ml microtube rotor and a 4 x 8-place PCR strip rotor, and weighs just 1.1 kg, so it fits on any shared bench without competing for space with the lab’s main centrifuge. Labman supplies the FC5306 for laboratories across Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg.

- Rotating speed: 6000 rpm
- Centrifugal force: 2000 x g
- Included rotors: microtube + PCR strips rotor
- Maximum capacity: 8 × 1.5 ml /2 ml
- Cooled: no

Compare the FC5306 to the rest of the Frontier range
| Category | Speed range | Max RCF | Typical capacity | Best for | Example models |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mini Centrifuges (this category) | 6,000 rpm (fixed) | 2,000 x g | 8 x 1.5/2.0 ml or 4 x 8-place PCR strips | Quick spin-downs, teaching labs, routine QC | FC5306 |
| Microcentrifuges | 13,500 – 15,200 rpm | up to 21,953 x g | up to 44 x 1.5/2.0 ml | Molecular biology, DNA/RNA and protein work, clinical samples | FC5513, FC5513R, FC5515, FC5515R |
| Multipurpose Centrifuges | 6,000 – 30,000 rpm | up to 65,395 x g | up to 4 x 1000 ml | Blood collection tubes, plasma/serum, cell culture, industrial QC | FC5706P, FC5707, FC5714, FC5718, FC5816, FC5916, FC5917RF |
| Refrigerated Centrifuges | Matches the micro or multipurpose model it is based on | up to 65,395 x g | up to 4 x 1000 ml | Any of the above when the sample must stay cold, e.g. blood, plasma, enzymes, RNA | FC5513R, FC5515R, FC5718R, FC5720R, FC5816R, FC5830R, FC5916R, FC5917RF |
One-step operation, no programming required
The FC5306 has no display and no speed or time settings to configure: place the sample in the rotor, close the lid, and the unit starts spinning without a single button press. That makes it well suited to teaching labs, shared equipment areas, and any quick microtube spin-down where a full-featured microcentrifuge would be more machine than the task needs.
Two rotors included, ready to run
Unlike most of the Frontier range, which ships without a rotor so it can be matched to a specific protocol, the FC5306 comes with both an 8 x 1.5/2.0 ml microtube rotor and a 4 x 8-place PCR strip rotor as standard, plus adapters for 0.2 ml and 0.5 ml tubes. That covers the two most common mini centrifuge uses, PCR strip spin-downs and general microtube work, out of the box.
Safety in a small footprint
A rotor imbalance sensor and two lid safety switches stop the rotor immediately if the lid is opened during a run or if the load becomes uneven, and the low-voltage power input and quiet motor keep the FC5306 unobtrusive on a bench shared with other equipment.
Built on Ohaus and Hermle engineering
Ohaus, which also owns the German centrifuge manufacturer Hermle Labortechnik, applies the same safety and quality standard to the FC5306 as to the rest of the Frontier range, in a unit small enough to sit next to a pipette rack rather than needing its own bench space.
Related centrifuge categories
Mini centrifuges are one of four categories in the Ohaus Frontier range. If your protocol needs adjustable speed, higher force, or a larger rotor, one of these related categories is likely a better fit:
- Laboratory Centrifuges for the full Ohaus Frontier range and a comparison of all four categories.
- Microcentrifuges for adjustable-speed 1.5/2.0 ml microtube work up to 15,200 rpm and 21,953 x g, well beyond the FC5306’s fixed 6,000 rpm.
- Multipurpose Centrifuges for 15 ml to 1000 ml tubes, blood collection, and cell culture work that a microtube rotor cannot cover.
- Refrigerated Centrifuges if your sample is temperature-sensitive; the FC5306 does not have a refrigerated version.
