CO2-Incubator & miniature shakers

CO2-incubator and miniature shakers are built to work inside a confined space: a CO2 incubator, a fridge, or anywhere a full-size bench shaker will not fit. Labman’s range comes from Edmund Buhler and covers models designed to run permanently inside a CO2 incubator, a compact general-purpose miniature shaker for the bench, and a battery-powered version for use where mains power is not available. All models share a small footprint and a 2 kg load capacity suited to small-volume samples.

Built for confined spaces

These shakers solve a specific problem: fitting inside a space that a standard bench shaker cannot use. Some models are designed to sit permanently inside a CO2 incubator, with the control unit staying outside so the operator never has to open the incubator door to change speed. Others are simply compact enough for general miniature use, or run on an internal battery for placement inside a fridge or standard incubator where a mains socket is not accessible.

The Buhler KM range

The Buhler KM CO2 and KM CO2-FL are both built to run inside a CO2 incubator, tolerant of up to 20 percent CO2 and 95 percent humidity without condensation. The KM CO2-FL uses a flat ribbon cable that passes through the incubator door seal, avoiding the need to drill a hole in the incubator wall that the standard KM CO2 requires. The KM 2 is a general-purpose miniature orbital shaker for the bench, with controls built directly into the unit rather than an external control box. The KM 2 Akku adds an internal battery with a minimum 40-hour runtime, for use inside a fridge or standard incubator without a mains socket nearby.

Who needs a miniature or incubator shaker

This category suits cell culture and microbiology labs running samples inside a CO2 incubator, and any lab needing to place a shaker inside a fridge or a space too small for a standard bench unit. It is also a fit for labs that simply want a smaller-footprint shaker for light, low-volume work where a full-size 15 kg or 30 kg platform is more than needed.

FAQ - CO2-Incubator & miniature shakers

Can a shaker run inside a CO2 incubator?
Yes. The Buhler KM CO2 and KM CO2-FL are built specifically for this, tolerant of up to 20 percent CO2 and 95 percent humidity without condensation, with an external control unit that stays outside the incubator.
Does installing a shaker in a CO2 incubator require drilling the incubator wall?
It depends on the model. The standard KM CO2 needs a cable feedthrough drilled into the wall. The KM CO2-FL avoids this: its flat ribbon cable passes through the incubator door seal instead, so no drilling is needed.
Is there a battery-powered laboratory shaker?
Yes. The Buhler KM 2 Akku runs on an internal battery for a minimum of 40 hours, for use inside a fridge or standard incubator where a mains socket is not accessible. It also runs continuously on mains power when a socket is available.
