Erlab Captair 483 Smart – Large-Format Reverso Ductless Fume Hood for High-Load Applications
The Erlab Captair 483 Smart is the widest Reverso-design hood in Erlab’s ductless portfolio, offering an expansive 1,200 mm interior width combined with a deeper working chamber than oblong-opening models.
Its unique Reverso sash runs left-to-right and incorporates a hinged panel that can be folded downward to reposition the opening toward the centre of the cabinet. This improves operator ergonomics when standing and allows comfortable access to elevated working zones — an important advantage for tall apparatus, balances or powder-dispensing devices.
Compared with compact oblong models, the Captair 483 Smart provides substantially greater filtration capacity through three configurable filtration columns, enabling safe handling of large solvent volumes, hazardous powders or combined applications.
Instead of exhausting conditioned air outdoors like ducted fume hoods, this system draws contaminated air through activated carbon filters for vapours and HEPA H14 or ULPA U17 filters for particulates before safely recirculating purified air back into the laboratory. This approach dramatically reduces HVAC energy consumption, eliminates outdoor emissions and supports sustainable laboratory operation.
Because the hood is not connected to building exhaust systems, airflow remains exceptionally stable — ideal for precision weighing down to 0.01 mg and pharmaceutical API handling.
According to the datasheet (pages 3–4), the Captair 483 Smart operates at 660 m³/h airflow, with face velocities of 0.4–0.6 m/s and power consumption of 160 W. It complies with AFNOR NF X 15-211:2009, DIN 12 927, BS 7989 and EN 1822 HEPA/ULPA standards.
Erlab’s integrated Smart Technology continuously communicates safety status via light and sound signals while monitoring airflow, temperature and humidity in real time.
Installation is flexible: the hood can be mounted on a fixed laboratory bench (Benchcap) or on a mobile Erlab stand (Mobicap), as shown in the dimensional drawings on page 2.
